The Botanic Garden (Jardín Botánico), located in the “La Paz” district of Puerto de la Cruz, is not just worth a visit for biologists and plant enthusiasts, but for everyone who is looking for a shady oasis of calm.
On the spacious compound you can find many exotic plants and trees and several ponds with water lilies and turtles.
The Jardín Botánico was cultivated in 1788 by the Spanish King Charles III, with the purpose of accustoming tropical plants to local climate. However, the action, which had been successful on Tenerife, could not be transferred to Continental Spain. Many of the species that were later also planted there simply would not grow on the mainland.
Cañadas del Teide and Teleférico del Teide (Teide-Gondola Lift)
The Cañadas del Teide constitute the volcano´s actual primordial crater with a diameter of 19 kilometers.
Further volcanos stand inside of it, like the Pico Viejo and the fascinating Pico del Teide, whose 3718 meters of height make it the highest mountain in Spain. You can reach the Pico del Teide by taking a 2.356 m long trip in the Teide-Gondola Lift from the foot of the mountain and afterwards through the mountain station “La Rambleta” on 3.555 meters above sea level, at the old crate that has a diameter of 850 meters. The remaining distance to the upper edge of the crater you can only cover by foot, with a special written permit from the Ministry of the Environment (which we will of course organize for you as well). At that height, you will get unique impressions and enjoy a breathtaking view.
Most of the time, you also have a fascinating panoramic view of the neighbouring islands Gran Canaria, La Palma and La Gomera.
